RWS contacted Bee Happy Translation Services in July 2021. At that time, AI was on the rise, and RWS helped a big software company to train its AI. RWS shared the total word count of almost 100,000 words for Minangkabau, Banjarese, and Achinese in 3 months. We needed to finish all the translations, and we collaborated with more than 10 linguists to achieve the RWS project at that time. By assisting RWS at that time, our organization successfully achieved the 2021 company goal.

Project Challenges & Solutions

Challenges

  1. New Languages:
Since we’ve just finished local languages for the first time, our team is facing a bit of difficulty in finding the right linguist. Every day, we have to search using out-of-the-box methods to find a linguist who can work with us. In this case also we do not have any professional translation to work on and all the translators are newbies. At that time, the local language was very rare, and we also don’t know the market rate for such services yet.
  2. Complex Research:
Since the field is about social and culture therefore there are several words that are very uncommon to use in daily life. We had a struggle in finding the meaning of each word
  3. Inconsistency in Translation:
At that time we have some feedback regarding inconsistency, in the fact we also do not have an upgradable project management system. Different translators have different preferences in choosing the words.  Therefore the client’s a little bit in reviewing our translation.

Solutions

  1. New Languages:
Other than trying to find the current translators for the project, we start to prepare some translators to support future projects.
  2. Complex Research:
Our team joined a community platform to find rare vocabulary. We prefer to use the community platform to find rare vocabulary instead of doing deep research. It is because if the translator does too much research, there would be too many references for them, making it difficult for them to decide.
  3. Inconsistency in Translation:
We decide to reduce some translators based on their quality and only retain the high quality translators to work on this project.

Although the local languages are rare, Bee Happy Translation Services successfully conducted the 3-month translation project with RWS. The Bee Happy team could provide all the local languages that RWS needed at that time. Bee Happy is also part of their selected vendor, therefore every time they have a local languages project, they always reach out to us.
